Yering Station White Wine

 

Yering Station was established in 1838 by the pioneering Ryrie brothers who adopted the Aboriginal name “Yering” for their new station. In 1996 the Rathbone family purchased the property drawn to its natural beauty, history and the great promise of its wines.

The Yarra Valley is considered Australia’s most prominent cool climate region, revered for producing exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The variable and long growing seasons experienced in the Yarra Valley encourages distinctive varietal flavour and complex structure, hallmarks of our regionally expressive Yering Station wines.

Our vineyards are made up of five Yarra Valley sites across the Yarra Glen and Coldstream subregions.

Each site has subtle changes in soil, aspect and elevation which enable us to make the most of each vintage’s climatic differences. At Yering Station, soils, canopies and yields are carefully managed to ensure the highest quality fruit makes it to our winery, and then to your bottle.

Each vintage, we employ the use of precision viticulture to map and isolate the finest parcels from the best blocks and the best rows. Such practices include cutting-edge soil and canopy mapping technology.

By using precision viticulture, we’re able to highlight immaculate parcels and honour them with integrity.

The Rathbone family’s vision for the property has led to major accomplishments including winning the ‘International Winemaker of the Year’ at the highly established International Wine and Spirit Competition, London 2004; and the property being inducted into the Australian Tourism Awards ‘Hall of Fame’ in 2006.

2021 Vintage Wrap Up 

After a cool, wet and challenging growing season, the weather gods smiled on the Yarra Valley for vintage. The beginning of Feb saw the arrival of a stable, even and warm weather pattern of sunny days and cool nights. This enabled the Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs to reach a perfect balance of maturity. Lots of bright red and black cherry fruits in the Pinots and citrus and peach in the Chardonnays.
Just as we began to perceive the threat of a compressed vintage, the weather pattern, while remaining stable and even, dropped down from low 30sC to low 20sC, which gave some of the later ripening Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sites a little more time to develop flavor while holding on to natural acidity, along with slowing down the rapid approach of Shiraz. This also relieves pressure on the winery.
The middle of March saw the first parcels of Shiraz arrive into the winery prior to the first significant rain event of the harvest. Just when we suspect that we would struggle to ripen the remaining Shiraz and Cabernets another bout of lovely dry and warm weather descending, ripening everything to perfection. Elegant, aromatic and finely structured Shiraz and Cabernets.
It's pretty hard to contain the excitement around the level of quality across the board we are seeing in the V21 wines.
